Tenants will soon be able to ask their Landlords for Energy Improvements
Fri 04 Sep 2015
New Regulations which are coming into force on 1st April 2016 will allow tenants to ask their landlords if they (the tenants) can carry out energy efficency improvements to the property. The Landlord does not automatically have to allow these works, but consent cannot be unreasonably withheld.
It is important to point out that it will be the responsibility of the tenant to ensure that the works are funded and there should be no upfront costs for the landlord, unless they agree to it.
However landlords should be aware that another deadline will be coming in April 2018, when it will be illegal to rent out a property with an EPC rating of F or G.
