One in four tenants would not report property damage

One in four tenants would not inform their landlord if they had caused significant damage to their rental property, a survey has revealed.
A YouGov survey of 2,000 adults commissioned by property listing website TheHouseShop discovered that 27% of renters would keep any damage from their landlord. This rose to 33% when considering only private tenants. While 15% said they would secretly hire a professional to repair the damage, 11% have enough faith in their DIY skills to attempt to repair the damage themselves.
These results prove that it is very important to carry out regular inspections at rented properties to identify any damage and also any repairs that are required. It is also vital to maintain good communication between landlord and tenant to ensure any repairs are identified at an early stage.
