Eviction Costs are Set to Rise

For the Second Year running eviction costs are set to rise again.The Ministry of Justice is holding a consultation to hike the fee for possession claims in the county courts by £75 per claim.
The Government raised the current costs in April last year, the fees were raised for paper applications from £175 and for online claims from £100. The Government have now proposed that the cost of filing an online application will go up from £250 to £325 and for a paper application from £280 to £355.
In a foreword, Justice Minister Shailesh Vara acknowledges that "increasing court fees will never be popular or welcome". However, this also underline that more money is needed to invest in court services.
New Charges will not only apply to Private Landlords, but social landlords and Mortgage lenders seeking possession of properties.
